Wow, I had no idea about cans being lined! I have started recently to cook more beans from scratch. I always thought it would be a pain to do but it's not at all.
ReplyDeleteYes, a lot of cans were and still are lined with BPA. Many companies have switched to BPS, which may be as bad, or worse, than BPA, and those cans are often labeled "BPA-free." So we just opt to not buy canned foods as much as we can avoid. It really is pretty simple to cook dried beans, especially if you have an Instant Pot or similar electric pressure cooker. We always cook up a big batch at a time and freeze the rest, so we have the convenience of having ready-made beans without the can.
DeleteI continue to be wildly jealous of your pantry! Pasta is one of the biggest zero-waste problems for us - there are only 2 shapes available in our zero waste shops, and anything in a cardboard box from the supermarket is also wrapped in plastic. It's really annoying.
ReplyDeleteOh that is frustrating! I'm going to be experimenting with making fresh pasta--I haven't done that since I became vegan 10 years ago, but I still have my pasta roller. It won't make shapes, but at least I'll have some other options. Hopefully I'll have something for VeganMoFo18.
